Two of the smartphone industry's top super size contenders, iPhone 6 Plus vs Galaxy Note 3, are currently battling it out in the "who's biggest and best" arena, following the release of the two iPhone 6 models, complete with updated design and specs.

Despite the similartiy in size, is Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 a match vs the specs of the iPhone 6 Plus?

The bigger Galaxy Note 3 sports a 5.7-inch screen with 1080 x 1920 pixel display, while iPhone 6 Plus became the largest (but also one of the thinnest) iPhone ever, with a 5.5-inch screen and 1080 x 1920 pixel display.

iPhone 6 Plus might have a slight resolution advantage when it comes to pixel per inch (ppi) with its 401 vs Galaxy Note 3's 386.

The camera capabilities of iPhone 6 Plus is the same as the outgoing iPhone 5s' 8 MP rear-facing camera and 1.2MP front-facing camera.

The current Galaxy Note boasts a 13MP rear-facing camera and 1 MP front-facing camera.

Apple's iPhone 6 Plus boasts faster processing power with the Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone and Apple A8 chipset, while a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 powers Galaxy Note 3.

But perhaps the biggest edge that the iPhone 6 Plus has, is an internal memory of up to 128 GB. Galaxy Note 3's maximum storage capacity tops out at only 64 GB.

However, Samsung is launching its own born and bred iPhone 6 Plus killer on Oct. 17 – Galaxy Note 4.

The company has also just released the metal clad Galaxy Alpha to offer a more sophisticated design going up against the smaller iPhone 6.

Samsung has got some work cut out for them however, after Apple sold more than 10 million iPhone 6 within less than two weeks after it went on sale, and 4 million pre-orders within 24 hours after its launch.

The sales of the latest iPhone are expected to shoot up now that China has given Tim Cook's organization the green light to sell the handsets in the most populous country in the world.

"iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus customers will have access to high-speed mobile networks from China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom," Cook said in a press release on Tuesday.

Authorities in China approved of the commercial release of iPhone 6 in the country after Apple assured the government that there is no "backdoor" in the smartphones for US agencies to access user's data.
