iPhone 8 rumors: Upcoming Apple smartphone to arrive in September, will carry a new name?

(Apple)Shown are the five color variants of the iPhone 7 Plus. The latest rumors claim that the iPhone 8 will come with a glass-covered fingerprint scanner.

It has not been long since the iPhone 7 hit the store shelves, but, this early, Apple fans are already looking forward to the release of the iPhone 8. As it is the 10th anniversary edition of the iPhone, it is said that the iPhone 8 may assume a different name when it arrives in, allegedly, September this year.

According to the latest unconfirmed reports, Apple will be releasing three variants of the iPhone later this year, which, supposedly, includes the "S" variants of the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone 8, which is expected to come with revolutionary features.

It is said that one of the iPhone 8's features that the device will boast of is an edge-to-edge OLED screen, something that Samsung introduced two years ago when it launched the Galaxy S6 Edge.

It is also suspected that the highly anticipated device will ditch the home button and embed the fingerprint sensor into the screen of the device itself and will come with a laser sensor for the purpose of gesture recognition.

Meanwhile, it is said that the iPhone 8 may not be called iPhone 8 after all as, allegedly, Apple might assign it a different name. As Apple released an iPhone SE (special edition) last year, it is said that the company may once again deviate from the conventional nomenclature of its devices by renaming the iPhone 8, much more that the upcoming device is meant to signify and celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first-ever iPhone. Reportedly, one of the possible names for the iPhone 8 is iPhone Pro.

However Apple plans to name the iPhone 8, it is expected that the upcoming Apple smartphone is a device to watch out for as it suspected to be more than just an evolution of the current iPhone 7 as it will be a revolution, so to speak, thanks to its impressive specs and features, whatever they may be.

As there are also rumors claiming that Samsung is releasing its Samsung Note 8 (which is alleged to come with a foldable screen) around the same time with the iPhone 8's release, gadget fanatics may witness a royal battle between smartphones this September. As to who will end up the victor, only time will tell.
