'Iron Man 4' updates: Robert Downey Jr. too valuable for Marvel to let go, says source

(Facebook/Iron Man)Rumors claim that Robert Downey Jr. is paid 100 million dollars for his reprisal of his Iron Man character in "Avengers: Infinity War."

Although there is no official word yet on whether Robert Downey Jr. will star in another solo "Iron Man" movie, the latest in the rumor mill is that Marvel is caving in to the financial demands of the actor in order to have him in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" movie. As Marvel finds Downey Jr. to be too valuable to let go, there may be a possibility for the actor to top bill "Iron Man 4."

According to a recent report of New York Daily News, a source has said that Downey Jr. will be receiving a hefty amount of $100 million for his participation in "Avengers: Infinity War."

"Marvel knows that he is their quarterback for these films leading the fans through the adventures. To have to find a new Tony Stark and make fans love him would be a near on impossible challenge," an unnamed source of the publication revealed.

In the event that the claim of the said source is true, then, it is likely that Marvel is not just ready to let go Downey Jr. yet and is willing to cough up his pricey talent fee just to keep him. This rumor corroborates earlier statements of Marvel's big boss Kevin Feige, wherein he admitted that the studio is not just replacing the actors breathing life to certain Marvel characters anytime soon, including Iron Man.

"I think most of these characters that are iconic, like (James) Bond, like Batman, like Spider-Man, like Iron Man, someday will be portrayed by different actors. The good news right now is I don't have to think about that for a long time. We have storylines for this cast for many years to come," Feige said in an interview back in October last year.

While Downey Jr. will still be a part of "Avengers: Infinity War," Movie Pilot claims that it may be the last time for him to wear the iron suit as, allegedly, his Tony Stark/Iron Man character will be killed off in the upcoming "Avengers" movie. Apart from his pricey talent fee, the said online publication claims that killing off Tony Stark will be the best way for Marvel to usher in more of its comic book characters to its Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Riri Williams, who is known as "Iron Heart," in the comic books.

Will Downey Jr. top bill another solo "Iron Man" movie? Will his appearance in "Avengers: Infinity War" be his last?

Fans can only guess for now.

"Avengers: Infinity War" is slated to arrive in May 2018.
