Jeremy Lin news 2016: Lin lauds former Knicks assistant coach Kenny Atkinson after being hired as Nets head coach

(Reuters/Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports)Charlotte Hornets guard Jeremy Lin (7) makes a basket in the first quarter of the game against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center.

Charlotte Hornets point guard Jeremy Lin is happy for new Brooklyn Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson, who was the former assistant coach of the New York Knicks when "Linsanity" took over the National Basketball Association (NBA).

In a report by The New York Times, Lin said about Atkinson's hiring, "I've kind of been saying it was just a matter of time for him because I know how good he is, I know how much he was there for me in New York.

"When you're around him, you kind of understand there's something different about him: his energy, his passion, the juice he approaches his work with," Lin continued.

The 27-year-old added that Atkinson is always the first one in the practice facility, and not just early, but hours ahead.

Because of the great relationship Lin and Atkinson have, rumors about the point guard leaving the Hornets for the Nets started to make the rounds. Before the season, Lin inked a two-year deal worth $4.3 million with Charlotte which has a player option for the second year.

Once Lin decides to exercise the option, he will become available on the market when the free agency period begins following the current season.

However, Lin did not share anything significant about it and said, according to SB Nation's Netsdaily that it is "disrespectful" to the Hornets to discuss the matter.

Because of the success the Hornets had in the regular season and making it to the playoffs as the sixth seed, it is expected Lin stays. He is one of the reasons why the franchise again became a playoff contender.

Unfortunately, Lin and the Hornets are not having the best time of their campaign as of the moment, with them down 0-2 in their first round series with the Miami Heat.
