Jeremy Lin news 2016: 'Linsanity' giving back to Harvard

Before "Linsanity" took over the National Basketball Association (NBA), Jeremy Lin was putting up great performances for Harvard University. And now, he is repaying them as he donates $1 million to the school.

According to the Associated Press' report, the money will be for the "renovation of the school's basketball arena (Lavietes Pavilion) and for undergraduate financial aid."

Lin was a standout when he played for the Crimson, being an All-Ivy League second-team member once (2008) and a first-team member twice (2009, 2010).

This is great news off-court for Lin, but on the hardwood, he experienced the opposite as the Brooklyn Nets dropped their season opener versus the Boston Celtics. At the TD Garden, the 28-year-old's new squad fell 122-117.

Lin, as expected, is the new starting point guard for the Nets. He saw action for nearly 28 minutes, recording 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and one block. He had ample help as four other teammates scored in double-digits but the Celtics were just too much for them.

The performance against Boston is an excellent start for Lin who is viewed as the Nets' new franchise guy. And despite losing, the same can be said for the squad since the Celtics are a tough opponent, especially after the changes they made in the off-season.

Still, if the Nets and Lin want to contend, they should do a better job than what they did in the first game of their new campaign, although it is understandable because there are new players on the roster and for now, adjustments continue to take place.

The Nets surely aim to bounce back this 2016-17 National Basketball Association (NBA) season. In their previous campaign, the team ended second to the last in the Eastern Conference with a terrible 21-61 record. This led to them missing the playoffs, a first since the franchise moved to Brooklyn from New Jersey.
