Users of the torrent directory and magnet links provider website that is KickassTorrents might have been wondering why the site is offline as of late. The reason for such is that its purported owner was finally taken into custody by United States authorities, who, at the same time, nabbed most of the website's domains.

The alleged owner of the site, a 30-year old Ukranian named Artem Vaulin who goes by an online alias "tirm," is currently detained in Poland and is now facing charges of several counts of copyright infringement and money laundering. Moreover, the U.S. Government is now requesting to have him extradited

What happened to Vaulin was pure carelessness. It was found that he had put up a social media fan page, which is considered a very incautious move on his part since he was basically giving away much-needed information regarding KickassTorrent's activities and his whereabouts to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

In addition, the FBI followed his trail on the web through his social media login details and discovered that he was using an Apple email account. Armed with a warrant, FBI then went to Apple and ordered the company to hand over to them details about the email account "tirm@me.com." It was found out that this alleged email account of Vaulin was not only used to make some online purchases but also turns out that it has been getting notifications about KickassTorrents. Hence, authorities were able to track his Internet Protocol (IP) address the lead to his arrest.

However, despite the FBI's efforts in arresting Vaulin, news are coming in that a torrent link site has already mirrored the KickassTorrent website and is now quite operational, not to mention there's a sort of statement that shows up on the said website confirming Vaulin's arrest and a message that goes with it stating that their freedom to share information across the web is unwavering.
