'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date updates: Game listing removed from Japan's Xbox website; 'KH3' expected to be released sometime in 2018

(Facebook/KingdomHearts)"Kingdom Hearts 3" might be released exclusively on the PS4 in Japan.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" will undoubtedly be released on today's game consoles. However, the real question is when the game will be released and whether it will be exclusive to the PlayStation.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" developer Square Enix had long ago confirmed that the popular role-playing game will be released on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. However, the recent removal of the game's listing from Xbox's official Japanese website has had fans wondering at the implications of that action.

To be fair, "Kingdom Hearts" has never been released on Microsoft's gaming platform. "Kingdom Hearts 3" was supposed to be the first title of the franchise to be released on the console, but now it seems that won't be happening.

The news was reported by KHInsider and was quickly picked up by Redditors who added that when one tries to access the listings page, there's a prompt that suggests the product might have been moved to a different URL.

While the news might be worrying to some, other Reddit users have suggested that "Kingdom Hearts 3" might just be an exclusive to the PlayStation 4 in Japan only. After all, Japan is Sony territory and very few use Xbox One consoles in the country. There's also the fact that the game is still available for pre-order on Microsoft's North American stores so players in those territories can still get the game.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" is expected to be released sometime in 2017 or early 2018. Players still have a bit of waiting to do, but they can while away the time with "Kingdom Hearts 2.8," which will reportedly be available for ordering in December.

The impending release of "Kingdom Hearts 2.8" is the reason why there was no mention of "Kingdom Hearts 3" at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). According to director Tai Yasue, while they were excited for "KH3," they had to focus on the other game first.

"But II.8 we're releasing globally at the beginning of December," Yasue told Venture Beat. "We wanted to concentrate on that first. We want what's best for the moment."

It seems what's best for "Kingdom Hearts" fans at the moment is "Kingdom Hearts 2.8." So players should try to enjoy this game, while Square Enix polishes the next installation of their favorite game.
