'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date announcement at E3? Release possibly on hold to make way for 'Final Fantasy XV'

(Disney / Square Enix)"Kingdom Hearts III" release date moved

Although it has been three years since "Kingdom Hearts III" was first confirmed, Square Enix still hasn't released the highly anticipated action RPG. To appease long-suffering "Kingdom Hearts" fans, Square Enix will reportedly release news concerning the latest installment during E3 2016.

During an interview with The Koalition last month, "Kingdom Hearts Unchained X" game producer Hironori Okayama confirmed that news regarding "Kingdom Hearts III" would be announced at the trade show taking place this June. Unfortunately, one should not expect the announcement to be related to the game's release date.

According to the latest reports, "Kingdom Hearts III" may not be released until 2017.

Notably, the latest "Kingdom Hearts" installment was missing from Square Enix's lineup for the current fiscal year that ends in March 2017. The lineup was outlined during the presentation for the company's briefing session with investors last May 12.

While a Square Enix representative told Videogamer that the upcoming games detailed in the presentation do not represent the company's complete lineup, "Kingdom Hearts III" isn't expected to be released any time soon.

"Kingdom Hearts III" game director Tetsuya Nomura is also heavily involved with the company's other highly anticipated game title "Final Fantasy XV." While both games were announced at E3 2013, they cannot be released within the same time frame.

"Both have Tetsuya Nomura as their director, so we can't create these two big games at the same time. It's a difficult job, as we want each game to be perfect in terms of quality," Shinji Hashimoto, "Kingdom Hearts" series producer told IGN.

With "Final Fantasy XV" set to be released on Sept. 30, it seems likely that Nomura has been putting most of his focus on this game title. Thus, "Kingdom Hearts III" will probably be released some time after the release of "Final Fantasy XV."

"Kingdom Hearts III" will be available to play for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
