LG G Watch launched at retail locations, AT&T selling the smartwatch on release date
LG G Watch has received a release date for retail locations on July 11, and AT&T is the first carried in the US to sell the smartwatch for $299.
"We've been working diligently to be the first U.S. carrier to offer the brand new LG G Watch and among the first to offer the LG G3 smartphone on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president for Devices, AT&T.
"AT&T offers one of the largest and best selections of LG devices and these products take our device portfolio to the next level. The LG G3 is a cutting-edge device and our first in a next-gen Quad HD display."
LG G Watch is an Android-powered smartwatch, first displayed during the last Google I/O developers conference in San Francisco, Calif.
The device is a wristwatch that connects to Android smartphones and has the ability to respond to voice commands.
It sports a 1.65-inch IPS LCD display that delivers notifications to users from Android phones' calendars, applications and social networks.
Available in "Black Titan" and "White Gold" color variants, LG G Watch is powered by the Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2GHz CPU.
LG G Watch is also integrated with Google Now, which sends information about current weather, stock market and travel situation, and makes these easier to access rather than being tucked away on a smartphone inside your pocket.
If there is one thing that consumers may not rave about is the smartwatch's overall design – a plain black box on top of a wrist watchband.
Meanwhile, Mashable reported that an Android Wear bug is currently preventing users from installing paid apps. The Android Wear install process appears to have run into a roadblock with paid apps since the system does not have the capability to extract the files inside the encrypted APK-package file.
Apple's counterpart, the iWatch, is rumored to be launching in October.
