Design: The LG G4 comes with eight different leather backings, as well as two polymer (plastic) ones that lend it a premium look. HTC has retained the same solid two-tone metal body in One M9 as in its flagship One M8. In terms of colors, the HTC One M9 is available in grey, gold, pink and a two-tone design of silver with a gold band.

Display: The LG G4 sports a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS "Quantum Display" (2,560 x 1,440), which LG claims improves color by 20 percent, brightness by 25 percent, contrast by 50 percent, and is 50 percent brighter than those of its competitors. On the other hand, the HTC One M9 sports a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution that offers a pixel density of 440ppi, with plenty of brightness and good viewing angles.

Specs: The One M9 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, while LG has avoided using the Snapdragon 810 system in the G4, as Qualcomm has not yet addressed the overheating issue of the SoC model. Instead, the LG G4 runs on a Snapdragon 64-bit hexacore 808 processor clocked at 1.8GHz.

Storage: Both the One M9 and LG G4 come with 32GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card slot.

Battery: The LG G4 comes with a 3000 mAh removable battery pack, while the One M9 has a larger 2,840-mAh battery, which can be refueled 60 per cent in 30 minutes.

Camera: The One M9 has a 20.7-megapixel camera and a 4-megapixel front-facing camera for taking wide-angle selfies. LG's new phone has a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, laser auto focus, and optical image stabilization 2.0., resulting in higher resolution shots, which capture 80-percent more light. The LG G4 also sports a front-facing 8MP camera with improved gesture shot for better selfies.

Price: The 32GB HTC One M9 costs $199.99 on contract and is also available unlocked for around $708.99 off-contract without a service plan. The factory unlocked version of the HTC One M9 is priced in the range of $649.99 and $715. LG is yet to announce the pricing for the G4, but the company sees the smartphone's vegetable-tanned leather back as a luxury offering and believes that consumers won't mind paying a premium for it.
