Lizard Squad news: The reason behind PlayStation Network and Xbox One hacking

The top two giant console organizations Xbox and PlayStation were shut down during the holiday season last year and one hacker group has taken credit for the attack. With this, Lizard Squad released the reasons why they hacked the networks.

When the networks were hacked during Christmas Eve and Christmas day, it has been speculated that the cause of the attack was a distributed denial of service or DDoS. That time, a different hacker group, The Finest Squad, has reportedly tried to stop the attacks by offsetting the DDoS.

Microsoft and Sony struggled to upgrade their systems and both companies never released a confirmation that the shutdown was caused by a DDoS.

In an exclusive interview with WinBeta, the cyber-terrorists revealed the reasons why they brought the networks down.

Lizard Squad said that the hacking began as an entertainment for them but it eventually turned into a "real cause."

"Taking down Microsoft and Sony networks shows the companies' inability to protect their consumers and instead shows their true vulnerability," according to WinBeta.

The group also said their actions were simple but it has forced the companies to upgrade their security systems.

When asked why they targeted the holiday season, they said it would result to a heightened attention: "it would anger and reach the largest amount of people—more people angry calls for a greater response from the companies; others were considered, including Nintendo, but no action was taken."

The group also admitted that they had a few "laughs" about this but it served a higher purpose.

The group even boasted that they could even take down NASDAQ if they wanted to cripple the economy but it is just not their goal. They do "not feel they are on that level of notorious mischief."
