The hack and slash action RPG from Deck 13 Interactive and CI Games, Lords of the Fallen, slated for an Oct. 28 release date, has received praise from the select ones who were able to get some hands-on gameplay review time, and it turns out it is not a Dark Souls copycat.

"Environmental deaths in Dark Souls aren't cheap," CI Games' Executive Producer Tomasz Gop told IGN, continuing, "But most of them would feel cheap in Lords because of the way we've designed the game."

"There are places where players will have a chance (here: high probability) of falling to their doom, but not only will they not be frequent, but also they'll mostly be found in optional areas. It's not as bound to be doomed as in Souls. We were not after that degree of dark," Gop reassured fans.

The story of Lords of the Fallen revolves around the Harkyn and his mentor Kaslo's quest to stop the war between humanity and evil.

"In his journey, Harkyn will forge strong alliances and face even stronger enemies. He will learn the true power of the Rhogar Lords - commanders of god's army. He will even bring the battle to the Rhogar, travelling to the heart of the demonic dimension," the game's official website explains.

There is a limited edition exclusively available for PS4 owners, which contains The Monk's Decipher DLC, Demonic Weapons Pack DLC and the video game's soundtrack. The standard edition retails for $59.99.

Lord of the Fallen is scheduled for commercial release date on Oct. 28 for Xbox One, PS4 and for PC via Steam.

Players can pre-order the game via a number of retailers.
