Metta World Peace's presence with the Los Angeles Lakers was expected to stay even if he had failed to make it to the final lineup since there was a good chance he would join head coach Luke Walton's group of assistants.

World Peace was among the guys competing for a spot on the Lakers' roster. According to Bleacher Report, the Lakers have just confirmed that he and a much younger Thomas Robinson have captured places on the team.

If World Peace had ended up failing in the contest, this would not have been the end of the road for him in Los Angeles. ESPN earlier reported that according to league sources, the Lakers were planning to keep him as an assistant coach.

World Peace would have guided the young players, especially the budding big men, of the Lakers if this were the case. ESPN stated that his experience and his impact to the new breeds last season were reasons why he was invited to training camp.

This would have been a noble gesture from the Lakers but it remains unknown if World Peace would have accepted the job. ESPN also mentioned that the 36-year-old aimed to continue his run in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a player. If he couldn't do it with the Lakers, it's possible that he could have declined the offer to look for a team that wants him to see action on the court.

In this stage of World Peace's career, searching for another interested squad is already a difficult task for him. He is no longer the bruiser he once was in the league and his game reportedly diminished.

Some say that signing World Peace is a gamble for any team because it is uncertain if he can still contribute efficiently even if given ample playing time. However, it seems that the Lakers are still willing to take that risk as he is now officially part of their roster.
