The Los Angeles Lakers were poised to name a new head coach before the NBA draft, and all that materialized recently when their one and only candidate agreed to a multi-year deal.

That lone candidate was none other than Luke Walton, who rose to fame after architecting the streaky 39-4 record of the Golden State Warriors this season. While many believe that Walton was simply carrying out the directions that Steve Kerr instructed him to do, the fact remains that coaching in real time is a whole lot different.

Though his father was somewhat apprehensive about him making a serious jump to head coaching, it turns out that Luke was very much keyed in to a head coaching role. With that, it becomes a reunion for Walton and the Lakers, a team that drafted him back in 2003 and a place which he played 10 years for.

Walton will buckle down to business with the Lakers once the Warriors' season ends. For now, his focus is on assisting Kerr and the Warriors coaching staff as they try to make it back-to-back NBA titles.

He will inherit a quartet of young players led by Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, D'Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr. For now, those are the four sure players sticking around, with the rest of the team composition to follow.

Though it wasn't mentioned, it will be up to Walton to fill up the missing roles in the team. They are likely to add one more young talent from the coming NBA draft while free agency will also be interesting.

A new franchise player also looms and that figure will depend on who the Lakers can snag from the big name free agent market. Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder is one of the big names available, as well as Al Horford of the Atlanta Hawks.
