The Los Angeles Lakers have been going through a rough patch the past few years, and while the unsuccessful seasons have allowed the team to draft young and talented players, they may need to dip into free agency if they want to engineer a quick turnaround.

The good news for the Lakers' fans is that with the salary cap expected to zoom past the $90 million mark, the team could have somewhere near $70 million available to spend on free agents this summer.

As for who they might spend it on, that's the question the team will have to answer soon, and there are already some interesting free agents who are being linked to them.

In a post over on Lakers Nation, the web site looked into the possibility of adding current Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan via free agency.

As the web site noted, DeRozan's Los Angeles roots and exceptional play over the past few seasons could make him a logical signing for a Lakers team starving for more talent.

Still, DeRozan may not be the ideal choice, considering how the Los Angeles Lakers already have a pair of promising backcourt players in D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson and his slight build might make it difficult for him to defend opposing small forwards should he be asked to move up to that position.

Given the current construction of the Lakers and the possibility that they'll add another wing player in the draft, going big may be the way to go for the team in free agency.

In that case, the Lakers seem to have plenty of intriguing options to consider.

Going by the list of the top NBA free agents compiled by Hoops Hype, a team looking to add frontcourt talent this offseason can look into possibly signing young big man Hassan Whiteside or perhaps opt for more experienced players such as Al Horford and Joakim Noah.

Even bigger wing players such as Nicolas Batum and restricted free agent Harrison Barnes could help provide the Lakers with that added bit of size which could turn them into a better team on both ends of the court.

With the offseason fast approaching, fans will find out soon enough exactly who the team wants to add over the course of this summer.

More news about the Los Angeles Lakers and their free agency plans should be made available soon.
