LA Lakers 2015 trade rumors: DeMarcus Cousins worth 2nd pick?

Despite earlier revealing that they would not trade away their Number 2 pick in the NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers have now admitted that they can use the pick to lure big players to the team.

Reports have surfaced of the Lakers looking to give away their pick without even choosing any of the aspiring collegiate players. But general manager Mitch Kupchak has claimed that they would first see how things play out and were most likely to keep the pick.

The 2015 NBA Draft's two biggest names are Karl-Anthony Towns of Kentucky and JaHill Okafor of Duke. Both players can be used as a cornerstone of a franchise, but few would argue that developing the process will take a longer time.

And with the Lakers, the need to become better in a shorter time frame is essential, as they wish to return to prominence.

Talking to the Orange County Register, Kupchak feels that the only way they will ever give up the pick is if they manage to get an established name on the roster.

"It would have to be a heck of an opportunity for us to consider doing something like that.

"If you came across something that made your team better quicker, it would probably be a veteran, then that's something you would consider," he continued, "but there's something to be said for having the No. 2 pick in terms of building going forward."

There are talks about a sign-and-trade for the Lakers, with names like LaMarcus Aldridge of the Portland Trail Blazers, or Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks being discussed.

However, another name that should be considered is Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins' game as well as his maturity has grown steadily, resulting in him appearing in his first NBA All-Star game and an All-NBA 2nd Team selection. He also averaged over 24 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Many claim that Cousins is turning into the most dominant center since the time of Shaquille O'Neal, but his talents are being wasted in Sacramento as there are no building pieces to accompany him in the team.

If Cousins' relationship with Sacramento continues to fall apart, then the Lakers should consider making a move for the big man – as he is an established force with a lot of mileage still left in terms of years (he is currently 24 years old).
