MacBook Air 2016 release date: Apple to launch the device in an event next month

(Apple Official)Shown in the photo are the current MacBook Air 11-inch and 13-inch models. Rumor has it that Apple is planning to scrap all its Air series.

After it was thought that Apple would unveil its MacBook Air 2016 at its recently concluded event last Sept. 7, those who have been anticipating the device were disappointed after the event commenced and culminated without a mere mention of MacBook Air 2016. However, hope is not lost for those who are still excitedly awaiting the arrival of the device as it is alleged that Apple would launch the MacBook Air 2016 this October in another event.

As expected, the Apple event last Sept. 7 cast the spotlight on the highly anticipated iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the Apple Watch 2. While it's true that it was strongly believed that, prior to the event, it will be the iPhone 7 that would take the center stage, there were still those who hoped that Apple would also unveil its other products, such as the MacBook Air 2016 and all new iPads.

With MacBook Air 2016 a no-show at the Apple event, MacWorld believes that the device may be launched in a separate event next month. However, the publication also suggests the possibility of having no event at all to launch the equally anticipated device.

MacWorld also opines that it is also likely for Apple to scrap the MacBook Air series. After all, an alleged Apple insider has said that Apple is poised to scrap its Air lineup, including the iPad Air and MacBook Air. Other sources claim that it is possible for the MacBook Air series to be replaced by the MacBook Pro lineup instead.

In the event, though, that the Cupertino-based company continues the production of its MacBook Air series, it is suspected that Apple will release it sometime in 2017 and not 2016, especially between the months of March and May. If this turns out to be true, technically, it's no longer qualified to be labeled as MacBook Air 2016.

However, in the event that a new MacBook Air is, indeed, in the pipeline, it is said that it may come with impressive features, such as the USB Type-C port, Siri, Touch ID fingerprint recognition, and a battery cooling system.

However, as there is no certainty whether there is, indeed, a MacBook Air 2016, speculations on what the supposed device will offer have to be taken with a grain of salt until Apple confirms the next MacBook Air.
