'Mafia 3' DLC release date news: 2K Games promises loads of free, paid post-launch content

Developer 2K Games has revealed a slew of free and paid downloadable content (DLC) that are arriving after the launch of "Mafia III" next month.

The developer promised free content and features for all users, whether they already bought "Mafia III" through pre-order or are still waiting to buy. Among the free stuff that players can expect are new character outfits.

According to a "Mafia III" blogpost, fans kept requesting for the ability to change the clothes of the protagonist. With new outfits coming soon, players can now select clothes that match their taste and their idea of Lincoln.

There is also going to be a free weapon pack. The "Judge, Jury and Executioner" pack is also up for grabs for everyone, starting 30 days after from the game's official launch. The golden weapons pack consists of a .30 rifle, a shotgun and a pistol.

Users can also expect a more expansive vehicle customization options.

"You can cherry out your favorite ride with new wheels, personalized license plates, and paint jobs," the post reads. "And, yes, you will get even more options to boost the performance on your vehicles."

Lastly, there will be free races, where players can earn in-game cash, more customization options and other rewards.

2K Games also teased three paid major expansions that they have started working on, that will reveal the "Italian Mafia isn't the only threat Lincoln faces." They will cost $39.97, but players can buy the Season Pass worth $29.99 to get each one for free. Players can also opt to buy the Deluxe Edition for $79.99 that includes the game and Season Pass, saving users $19.97.

The studio first detailed the upcoming free and paid DLC at the PAX West panel, GameSpot reported. 2K also showcased a trailer (seen below) during the panel, which was captured by DualShockers.

"Mafia III" is set to be released on Oct. 7 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
