'Mass Effect Andromeda' news: Developers discuss what was shown in recently revealed gameplay trailer

(Mass Effect official website)Developers showed off 'Mass Effect Andromeda' gameplay in a new trailer

After long months of waiting, the folks over at BioWare finally gave fans their first look at "Mass Effect Andromeda's" gameplay.

The new gameplay trailer is nearly five minutes long, and it offers a good look at some of the game's important systems.

Early on in the trailer, fans are shown what looks to be some kind of navigational map containing different planets.

The trailer then focuses on one planet, and protagonist Ryder is then shown making their way through a city.

Fans are shown a scene where Ryder gets into a tense confrontation with a potential opponent. They are then given an opportunity to get an early look at what the dialogue will be like in "Andromeda."

Over on Twitter, producer Michael Gamble noted that the dialogue sequence previewed "was heavily cut down" from the in-game version, so fans can expect that scene to become even more dramatic once they get to it.

The trailer then shows off a bit of what planetary exploration will be like inside "Mass Effect Andromeda."

The rough terrain is first explored inside the Nomad and then shifts to Ryder using the scanner to find out what transpired at a grisly death scene.

Next up, fans are finally given a look at the revamped combat system. Ryder is shown zooming all over the place and utilizing high-tech weapons to take down some enormous opponents.

Combat footage wouldn't be complete without a Ryder death scene, and so developers have obliged by showing a hulking monster devouring the unfortunate protagonist.

Creative director Mac Walters was then asked over on Twitter if the death scenes will also be in the finished game. Walters responded, and shared that the footage shown was captured directly from an "Andromeda" playthrough, so that likely means that yes, the death scenes previewed will remain.

Last up, lead designer Ian S. Frazier also noted that there are some interesting little tidbits included in the trailer, and that should give fans yet another reason to watch the video over and over again.

"Mass Effect Andromeda" is currently expected to be released early next year.
