Miami Heat trade rumors 2016: Point guard position to be improved with Devin Harris or Baron Davis?

The Miami Heat, despite losing Dwyane Wade, made a number of roster moves this off-season as they aim to remain competitive. But there are areas they still need to better and one of them is the point guard position.

As of the moment, Goran Dragić is expected to start for Miami in the 2016-17 National Basketball Association (NBA) season. Joining him at the no. 1 position is the recently signed Beno Udrih and Tyler Johnson.

However, Johnson usually plays as a shooting guard who can take over the ball handling duties when needed. So the Heat only has two legitimate playmakers in Dragić and Udrih. That is a good rotation, but if the franchise wants to compete with the best squads in the league, they can use one more.

Potential targets for the Heat are the Dallas Mavericks' Devin Harris and veteran free agent Baron Davis.

With Harris, Miami needs to make a trade deal happen, which means it must give up some assets. But if the organization succeeds, they will have another quality court facilitator.

Harris' numbers dipped in the past few seasons but this is not because he is performing poorly. It is just that with the Mavs, he is sharing minutes with two other excellent point guards in Deron Williams and J.J. Barea. If given the playing time, the 33-year-old might return to the scorer he once was during his earlier years in the league.

Meanwhile, Davis last played in the NBA during the 2011-12 season. But recently, he expressed the desire to return and is showing off in pro-am basketball leagues. All the Heat must do is sign him to a contract. But there are a number of concerns in adding the 37-year-old. He may no longer have the ability to go toe-to-toe with the present players and his health is always a question.
