Miami Heat trade rumors 2016: Goran Dragić untouchable for now?

Point guard Goran Dragić is one of the players of the Miami Heat always present in trade speculations. However, as of the moment, he might not be on the market.

After a series of unfortunate events for Miami, which are mainly the departure of Dwyane Wade and impending absence of Chris Bosh, Dragić is now viewed as the team's leader. He and center Hassan Whiteside are expected to keep the Heat competitive. However, these incidents are also the reasons why he was dragged to the rumor mill.

Since Dragić's importance to the Heat has now increased, trading him may not be an option at least for now. If his duo with Whiteside leads the squad to a great start in the 2016-17 National Basketball Association (NBA) season, then the chances of him being dealt will diminish, especially if they can stay consistent and have great outings as the campaign goes on.

Unfortunately, if Dragić and the Heat fail to accomplish this, the greater the possibility of him leaving South Beach.

Heat president Pat Riley is not one to shy away from deals that will improve his team drastically. Even if Dragić is one of the best players in Miami, this is no assurance that his stint will be extended especially if they are performing poorly.

The new season is likely considered a proving ground for Dragić and the Heat before any roster move is done.

If ever the Heat finally places Dragić on the trade block, dealing him away will be easy. A lot of teams in the league are looking for a quality playmaker and the 30-year-old is one.

Dragić can score, pass the ball, rebound, and also has good defense. Aside from these, he is a proven starter in the league as well, with him thriving in that role for the past few seasons.
