Michael Schumacher condition update: 'slowly recovering' at Geneva estate

Michael Schumacher is slowly recovering but continues to face a "difficult and long process" of healing, according to a report by Crossmap.com. The race car driver's manager Sabine Kehm made the announcement after doubts remain over his recovery.

The seven-time Formula One World Champion suffered a serious ski accident in the French Alps almost a year ago. He was in a coma for nine months and only woke up in June of this year. He was transferred to a rehabilitation clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland where he stayed until September before he returned to his home in Lake Geneva. According to a report by Mirror, Schumacher's current health specialists received their expertise from the same clinic in Lausanne. "A large part of the team that cares for Michael now was trained by our specialists," said a representative for the center. He added, "We are following his treatment and are still a point of contact and entirely at his disposal."

Many remain optimistic that he would soon recover fully. Fellow race driver and friend Philippe Streiffe told Crossmap that Schumacher is "getting better, but everything is relative," as the famous race driver continues to have speech and memory lapses. Despite the slow recovery, his friends and family believe he is doing great given the severity of the trauma and injuries he incurred from the accident. In a statement to German broadcaster RTL, Kehm refused to give a definite timeline for her client's full recovery. Health experts estimate his healing will take up to three years. But even then, there is no guarantee he will be able to race again.

His family is grateful for all the well-wishers who continue to support him. "I can only say again that the family is very happy and touched by the sympathetic messages. I believe that positive energy does them good. We appreciate the condolences from around the world," she noted.
