Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date, specs rumors: Laptop to be unveiled at event today?

(Microsoft)Microsoft's Surface Book 2, the follow-up to the Surface Book (pictured), is rumored to be unveiled today.

Tech enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to this week. Microsoft is thought to be unveiling its Surface Book 2 at its scheduled October event today, Oct. 26.

Microsoft is marketing the event as a look into what Windows 10 has to offer. However, it is also widely believed that the company will be launching the Surface Book's successor at the same time. The Surface Book 2 has been the subject of many rumors as of late, especially due to its well-received first model.

The upcoming second-generation laptop hybrid is said to have a better display because of Intel's HD Graphics 520 GPU. It is also believed that it will be offered in two variations: one with 2K display and one with 4K display.

There is also wide speculation that Microsoft is opting for the Windows 10 Restone 2 operating system to run the Surface Book 2. The Redstone 2 is Microsoft's upcoming OS and is expected to launch in 2017. However, the company could make an exception for the Surface Book 2. Additionally, Intel's recently released Kaby Lake processor is said to be powering the device. Intel's newest chip has increased efficiency and performance.

Apart from that, there has also been talk of an improved battery life, lasting up to 14 hours. A Surface Pen is also highly expected to arrive with the Surface Book 2, since the device is a laptop and tablet hybrid. The new Surface Pen is believed to have had improvements compared to the first one.

It was previously reported that the Surface Book has been experiencing a slash in prices, which could indicate that the company is gearing up for a next-generation release.

Microsoft is set to hold its October event today, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. EDT. Fans can watch the rumored unveiling of the Surface Book 2 via a livestream through its website. The Surface Book 2 is expected to hit shelves in 2017.
