Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date, specs rumors: What to expect from new laptop

(Microsoft Store)Microsoft's Surface Book 2 expected to arrive sometime next year

Microsoft's Surface Book 2 is likely not coming out for a while, but even if its release may be further off in the distance than people would want it to be, earlier rumors have still managed to give people some idea of what to expect from the new laptop.

First off, the upcoming laptop is apparently set to feature a new design, and it could be one that finally puts a lot of people's worries to rest.

As Windows Central noted in an earlier report, there were more than a few Surface Book owners who weren't all too pleased with the laptop's unconventional hinge. However, the website has shared that an upcoming redesign may be addressing that particular issue.

Instead of there still being a noticeable gap that exists when the laptop is folded, the redesign will reportedly get rid of that, allowing owners everywhere to exhale and not worry about what may happen to the screen.

The Surface Book 2 is also apparently set to feature other changes beyond the reported redesign.

Similar to the other upcoming Surface devices, the next-gen laptop is also expected to come with a new operating system installed.

The Redstone 2 version of the Windows 10 operating system is what people can reportedly expect to see running in the new laptop, and helping power this new piece of software may be Intel's Kaby Lake processors.

Unfortunately, the new laptop potentially sporting these internal upgrades may also be contributing to why people will have to wait so long for it to arrive.

As ZD Net's Mary Jo Foley reported, Microsoft may be looking to let both the Kaby Lake processors and the Redstone 2 update sit for a bit before they are used in any new device, so that could be at least one reason why the new laptop is not expected to arrive this year.

More news about Microsoft's Surface Book 2 should be made available in the near future.
