Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date: early June or delayed until 2017

The Surface lineup from Microsoft has relied heavily on the popularity of the Surface Pro 4, which released last year, as well as on its previous models to keep interest among consumers alive. However, the lineup is due for a refresh and many are expecting that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be arriving soon, most probably next month.

Reporting on the release date of the Surface Pro 5, CNET states that there have been indications that Microsoft plans to bring it out by June this year. This particular release date rumor is fueled by the idea that Microsoft wants a new tablet/laptop hybrid on hand to take on the new MacBook Pro device, which Apple is thought to be releasing during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Importantly, since the WWDC is scheduled to kick off on June 13, Microsoft would have to bring out the Surface Pro 5 around that time.

However, Microsoft has not provided any official statement on when it plans to release the Surface Pro 5. This has left many speculating that the software major might just release the Surface Pro 5 with the next big update to Windows 10, which is named "Redstone." Importantly, the update is due to happen only next year and it is likely that Microsoft wants to bring out new devices alongside it.

As for the Surface Pro 4, it has managed to become a big favorite among those looking for a tablet/laptop hybrid, and several other companies have tried to emulate its design and features. With Apple also bringing out the iPad Pro and the smaller iPad Pro 9.7, it is likely that competitors for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 are going to keep arriving in the market. Coming to the specs of the Surface Pro 5, it is expected that it will release with a better processor to help combat some of the power issues that were seen in the previous model. This could mean that Microsoft will wait for the release of the "Kaby Lake" processor to release in late 2016 before bringing out the next Surface Pro.

More news and updates on the Surface Pro 5 should arrive soon.
