Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs rumors: Hybrid to arrive in 2017 with Kaby Lake chipset

(Microsoft Official)Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is said to be unveiled in spring next year.

Microsoft has yet to confirm the existence of another iteration in the Surface Pro lineup. However, rumors are rife that a new hybrid tablet in the form of Surface Pro 5 will be released sometime this year.

The tech company released its current model back in October 2014. Although rumors suggest that the successor to Surface Pro 4 will be released earlier, possibly sometime in May or June, other media outlets have reason to believe that Microsoft has a much later date in mind.

PC Advisor reports that Microsoft is likely to launch a new Surface Pro this October, while there are also reports suggesting that a spring 2017 release is also possible.

A 2017 release period is making the rounds as it is believed that the new Surface Pro 5 will be released once the operating system update, Redstone 2, also gets rolled out. The next hybrid device is also said to come with a Kaby Lake chipset, which is also expected to become available in 2017.

MobiPicker, citing Chinese sources who have had a good track record of providing inside information, reported that Surface Pro 5 will run on the new processor powered by Intel, which helps the device consume less power and thereby improving its battery life.

In addition, it is said that Surface Pro 5 will have a 16 GB of RAM making it great for multitasking. The Surface Pro 5 is also expected to come in different variants, ones that are available for more affordable prices and less powerful RAM.

As for other features, the sources also shared that Surface Pro 5 might not sport a standard 4K display; this feature is said to be optional for those who want to pay extra. For the GPUs, NVidia Pascal or the new Polaris GPUs could be on board.

As of now, all these reports about Surface Pro 5's release, specs and features are based on rumors so readers should take them with a grain of salt.
