The Surface Pro 4, which was released last year by Microsoft, has proven to be a big hit with consumers, but this does not meant that the company is pushing to release the next edition. In fact, going by current rumors, it appears that Microsoft is planning to put off releasing the next iteration until new processors are available to deal with the power problems that the current generation of devices is facing.

Most of the current rumors about the Surface Pro 5 from Microsoft are focused on whether or not the new Kaby Lake processor from Intel will be used on it. However, even through benchmark tests for the Kaby Lake processor have leaked onto the Internet, Intel is not close to releasing them for use on devices like the Surface Pro 5. Taking this particular aspect into account, websites have pointed out that the next Surface Pro model will only launch in June or later in October, after the new processors from Intel have been released for use.

One of the main reasons why Microsoft has chosen to wait for the new Kaby Lake processor is because the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book were beset with power management issues. These issues were pretty severe for a number of users and saw their devices consuming power even when they are put into sleep mode. More importantly, this particular issue was thought to be related to the processors used on the Surface Pro 4 and a switch to the Kaby Lake processors will reportedly ensure that they do not reoccur and will even give users a lot of benefits in terms of performance.

However, since Microsoft has rolled out firmware updates for the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book which have fixed these issues, users can expect the Surface Pro 5 to not be plagued with them. There are also indications that the battery on the upcoming Surface Pro 5 will be bigger and the display will be bumped up to a 4K Ultra HD version.
