Contrary to earlier speculations, it is said that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will not be released this year and will come out in spring next year.

Speculations on Microsoft Surface 5 not getting released this year stemmed from the leaked photos of the placeholders of the variants of the Surface with labels "2016," "2017," and "coming soon." While it is true that there is a possibility for Microsoft to make an announcement of one Surface product in October, it is unlikely to be the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 as its predecessor was only released in the same month last year.

However, there are also other reports claiming that it is unlikely for Microsoft to release any hardware this year as it wants the release of its products to coincide with the second part of the big Windows 10 update in early next year, otherwise known as the Redstone 2.

There are also allegations that Microsoft is still waiting for the arrival of Intel's Kaby Lake processor, which is rumored to be packed in the upcoming various Surface products.

Meanwhile, apart from being rumored to be released in spring next year, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is also believed to come with an upgraded Surface Pen. While it's true that the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 already comes with the Surface Pen, it is alleged that the upgraded version will come with a rechargeable battery that automatically charges wirelessly when it is attached magnetically to the device.

There are also rumors claiming that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will come with a 2K resolution screen, although there will be a variant that will offer a 4K resolution.

It is also suspected that Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will come with a USB-C port that will be used for charging the device.

Interesting as the specs and features of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 may be, they are nothing but rumors and speculations at this point in time and can only be confirmed once the device is launched.
