After a lengthy wait, sandbox game Minecraft finally graced next-gen consoles Xbox One and PS4 earlier this month via a digital launch, with a retail disc version following with a release date this coming October on PS4.

"As many of you will already know, Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition has been available from PlayStation Store since the beginning of the month. Following the successful digital launch, we are pleased to announce that the retail disc version will be available from 3rd October," according to Sony PlayStation's official press release.

The same article also mentioned of PS Vita versions of the blockbuster video game.

"In other Minecraft related news, for those waiting for the PS Vita Edition, we'll have more information on this in a few weeks and will include full details on how the Cross-Buy works between the PS3 and PS Vita Editions."

Minecraft PS4 Edition features a world that is a whole lot bigger than the world from last gen console. To be more precise, the PS4 world is 36 times larger than that of its PS3 sibling.

PS3 players are allowed to import their worlds into PS4, allowing them to continue working on structures and explore deeper towards the Nether.

Ecumenical News recently reported that Microsoft has agreed to purchase Mojang, the developers behind Minecraft, for $2.5 billion.

For Microsoft, the acquisition would mean that they would be able to penetrate the mobile gaming market with this Indie hit.

The tech giant has struggled to break into the mobile realm in the past years, but is showing huge potential in the future with recent Windows Phone updates.

Mojang on the other hand, aside from substantial payout, can make good use of Microsoft's resources for marketing and promotions.

However, according to a Mojang blog, the real reason why the creator of Minecraft Notch sold the studio is because "he doesn't want the responsibility of owning a company of such global significance."
