A self-described "smaller" Presbyterian congregation in Atlanta is encouraging similar churches "who may be on the verge of giving up" in a time of transition be faithful to God, reporting a spike in baptisms last month.

The Rev. Sylvia Wilson, a minister in the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) said in a statement entitled "Showers of Blessings" posted to the Presbytery's website on Wednesday that in the month of June, two adults and five children will be baptized and the session will receive two adults by Reaffirmation of faith.

She says her congregation, the Church of the Master, is "in a changing community that is in the midst of a pastoral search and other transitions," adding that God continues to bless the congregation "in surprising and amazing ways."

She offered to share one baptism candidate's testimony, who was asked why he wanted to be baptized and unite with the church.

"It's the love, God is love and love is God. Every time I come to this church I feel the love of God and the love of these people," the candidate said, according to Rev. Wilson.

The Revered said her congregation wanted to share the testimony "to encourage smaller congregations (as well as any individual) who may be on the verge of giving up."

"God does love us and God honors our all-too-human efforts to be faithful," she said.

"As someone once said, life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass … it's about learning to dance in the rain," she added.
"Church of the Master is learning to follow The Lord of the Dance. It's challenging at times, but we're having fun."
