Missing Malaysian Flight MH370 Could Still Be In Good Condition on Ocean Floor

Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 could still be in good condition, according to Martin Dolan, chief commissioner of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP), Dolan said that there is a possibility that the missing plane can still be in good condition even after being underwater for more than 10 months.

Calculations revealed that the plane could be anywhere in the 60,000 sq km area in the Southern Indian Ocean. It's just a matter of finding the exact location. He shared that authorities believe the aircraft could be 13,000 feet below the ocean surface, which means it will probably take a long time.

The missing flight is considered one of the biggest aviation mysteries of all time. It departed Kuala Lumpur on March 8 2014 but never arrived in Beijing. The plane took a different route and didn't send any distress signal.

Up until today, families of the 239 passengers still can't grieve for their loved ones because MH370 still hasn't been found.

Its location has been identified as the "seventh arc" off the west coast of Australia based on expert analysis of satellite data.

The search for the missing Boeing 777 has been daunting. It involved 14 countries, 43 ships, and 88 aircraft. It commenced in the South China Sea and has already covered 7.68 million sq km, which is equal to 1.5% of the earth's surface.

There are currently two vessels helping with retrieval operations, Fugro Equator and Fugro Discovery. The Equator has completed a six-month bathymetric survey of the uncharted search area off Western Australia while the Discovery has been doing deep water search operations since October 2014.

A third vessel, the Fugro Supporter, is on its way to the Southern Indian Ocean to help with the search. It's equipped with a Kongsberg HUGIN 4500 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), which can scan parts of the search area that are more difficult to reach.

According to Dolan, the authorities are also prepared to conduct a recovery plan once the aircraft is found.
