John Smith, a 14 year old teenager from Missouri, had a miraculous recovery following an accident in Lake St Louise. He and two of his friends were passing over the ice covered lake when all three of them fell through. The other two boys were able to escape but John was unable to get back out and remained submerged for over 15 minutes before being rescued by paramedics.

John was then transported to the SSM St Joseph Hospital West where doctorsperformed CPR but John still did not have a heartbeat after 45 minutes of the procedure.

Dr. Nancy Bauer, one of John's doctors, called the boy's mother to deliver the news. After hearing the news, Mrs. Joyce Smith did the only thing she could do: pray to the Lord God.

Then, in what the physicians in the hospital could only describe as a miracle, John had a heartbeat once more, triggering tears of joy from those around him.

"He was gone. I've never felt someone so cold in my life," said Bauer, in an article at Today. "It gave me goosebumps."

John was able to move around the following day. Doctors conducted a series of tests to ensure that no brain damage had occurred. The boy passed all of the tests, to his doctors' astonishment. Dr. Jeremy Garrett called it "amazing" and said that all of John's brain functions would return to normal.

When asked, John himself could not explain what happened. "There's not really any explanation but how God wanted me to live for a reason so I'm alive now," he said, in an interview at Today. Aside from a persistent cough, he is currently undergoing physical therapy for his hands. Other than that, John could only express thankfulness that he is still alive right now.
