Aside from announcing that the company is pulling out the Photoshop Touch app last May, Adobe also introduced three new "capture" apps and previewed its upcoming retouching app dubbed Project Rigel. The app, which is geared toward mobile devices, will not only replace Photoshop Touch, it is said to be introducing new image retouching tools as well.
Manu Anand, Adobe's Senior Product Manager for Digital Imaging, recently talked to the people at CNET and shared more details about Project Rigel. According to Anand, the new app is free for iOS users and would not be needing subscriptions to Creative Cloud.
He also described it as easier to use than the Photoshop Touch and that it would be using terms that people are more familiar with, like "Lighten" or "Darken." The old app used the terminology "Dodge" and "Burn."
Project Rigel will reportedly have functions like "crop, adjust, liquify, heal, smooth, light, color, paint, defocus and vignette." It will allegedly also carry some features that are not even available in Photoshop's desktop version yet. One example of this is the face-recognition tool that can be found in the app's "liquefy" menu. Apparently, when this feature recognizes a face in a photo, it will "overlay control points atop eyes, nose, mouth, chin and cheeks." These points can be utilized to resize or even move the facial features.
Adobe's new Project Rigel app will also let users import photos from different sources like Dropbox, Facebook and iOS Photos. The Rigel app is touted to be able to edit photos not just as a flat image but by using several layers which can then be synced using the desktop version.
The new Project Rigel will reportedly launch on iOS devices in October. The app would then be available on the Android system after a few months.
