Moto 360 Sport vs Gear S2: more design options with Gear S2

While the Gear S2 is being described by many as the device that will challenge the Apple Watch, there is another sport-flavored offering that has arrived in the market in the form of the Moto 360 Sport. Here is how these two devices fare in a comparison.

Design

When it comes to design, the Moto 360 Sport, as its name describes, has been created for those with sport and fitness on their minds. It comes with a round case, and the silicone material of the body continues into the strap and comes in three colors: white, black and orange. There is very little that is great about its design. When it comes to water and dust proofing, it has an IP67 certification.

As for the Gear S2, its basic model has a similar sporty vibe and it comes in two colors: gray and white, with matching silicone straps. However, there is a Classic version that looks more like a traditional watch and it comes in black with a matching strap. Both versions have round bodies made from steel but the straps of the Classic version are made from leather. However, there are also rose gold and platinum versions of the device, which were announced recently. Also, there is a rotating bezel on the Gear S2, which gives users an easy way of navigating through the apps on the device and even zoom into portions of the screen. Finally, it has an IP68 rating and can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.

When it comes to operating systems, the Gear S2 runs Tizen and it is compatible with Android devices, but iOS support could be announced shortly. While the Moto 360 Sport runs Android Wear and is compatible with both iOS and Android.

Display

On the Moto 360 Sport, there is an AnyLight Hybrid Display, which measures 1.37 inches. it has a resolution of 360 x 325 pixels and a density 263 pixels per inch. As for the Gear S2, its display measures 1.2 inches, which comes with a resolution of 360x360 pixels and a density of 302 pixels per inch.

Specs

Onboard the Gear S2 is an Exynos 3250 processor along with 4 GB storage and 512 MB RAM. As for its competitor, it comes with a Snapdragon 400 chipset from Qualcomm that is coupled with a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz along with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage.

Sensors

A big advantage with the Moto 360 Sport is its GPS. Additionally, it has an altimeter, accelerometer, heart rate sensor, barometer, gyroscope and ambient light sensor. On the Gear S2, there is a gyroscope, accelerometer, heart rate sensor, barometer and ambient light sensor. As for GPS, it is only available on the 3G model of the Gear S2.

Price

The starting price of the Gear S2 is pegged at $300 while the Moto 360 Sport has a similar price tag.
