With the release of the low-priced third generation Moto G yesterday, it remains to be seen whether or not budget-priced phablets like the Galaxy A8 will be able to steal the hearts and minds of customers. Here is how the Moto G smartphone compares to the Galaxy A8 phablet.

Design

The Moto G3 provides users good value for their money. Though it comes with a plastic body, users have the freedom to customize it on the Moto Maker website, just like its bigger and costlier siblings. Different materials can be chosen for its back panel and various colors for its front. Unlike the A8 however, it does not have a finger print scanner.

As for the Galaxy A8, it is quite bland when compared to the Moto G3, as it only comes in three colors, white, black and gold. However, it has a huge advantage when it comes to the material used in its build as it has a metal unibody, which very much makes it look like the premium iPhone 6.

Display

The display on the Galaxy A8 is bigger as it is a phablet. It comes with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 386 pixels per inch. As for the Moto G3, it has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of 294 pixels per inch.

Specs

The specs on the Moto G3 lag behind the Galaxy A8's as it only has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset along with a CPU with four cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and an Adreno 306 GPU. The Galaxy A8, on the other hand, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four clocked at 1.0 GHz and an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

Both devices have memory slots but the version on the Moto G3 only supports up to 32 GB of external storage while the slot on its competitor supports up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the Moto G3 comes with either 1 GB or 2 GB while the Galaxy A8 has 2 GB.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is priced at $510, unlocked while the Moto G3 costs around $180 without a contract.
