Moto G3 vs. Moto DROID Turbo: Moto G3 may save money but it's less powerful than the DROID Turbo

The new ultra cheap smartphone from Motorola, the G3, is already attracting a lot of consumers but the DROID Turbo, which was released last year, has proven that it still has the hardware to take on the recently released phone. Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

The Moto G3 might only have a plastic body but it can be customized on the Moto Maker website where a number of textured back panels, which come in various colors, are available. As for the rest of the device, it is fairly unremarkable, however, its edge comes in the form of its IPX7 certification, which allows it to be submerged in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes.

As for the DROID Turbo, it also has a plastic body with a metal band and is designed with sharp corners. It has capacitive buttons on its front, a big bezel running along the bottom of the screen and comes with a back panel covered in a layer of either Kevlar or ballistic nylon in red, black or blue. Unlike the Moto G3, however, it is only splash resistant.

Display

The screen on the DROID Turbo is of excellent quality and overshadows it rival. It comes with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 565 pixels per inch while the Moto G3 has 5 inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a density of 294 pixels per inch.

Specs

In the Moto DROID Turbo is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, coupled with a Krait 450 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.7 GHz and an Adreno 420 GPU. As for the Moto G3. its hardware cannot keep up with its competitor in terms of speed because it only has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, a CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and an Adreno 306 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory card slot on the DROID Turbo while the Moto G3 has a slot which can be used to add up to 32 GB of external storage. As for RAM, the Moto G3 either comes with 1 GB or 2 GB while the DROID Turbo has 3 GB onboard.

Camera

The DROID Turbo has a 21 megapixel rear camera while the Moto G3 has a 13 megapixel version.

Battery

A huge 3900 mAh battery powers the DROID Turbo while the Moto G3 is fuelled by a 2470 mAh battery.

Price

The Moto G3 costs $180 in its unlocked form while the DROID Turbo costs $99 with a two-year contract.
