The Moto X lineup has always carried impressive features and specs, which make it one of the most hotly-anticipated devices this year. Fans may be excited to know what Moto X 2016 can bring to the table, but not much information has been shared. The phone, however, continues to be surrounded with various rumors regarding its specs, features and release date.

Renowned leakster Evan Blass recently posted photos of a phone believed to be a new handset from Motorola. The leakster, also known as @evleaks, speculated that the photos were of the Moto G4 Plus but there's a possibility that they were of the Moto X 2016. The company has not confirmed anything about the upcoming smartphone, but word has it that the device will be unveiled this month.

Motorola has sent press invites for an event in New Delhi on May 17 and several media outlets suggest that a new Motorola phone will be introduced by then, although it remains unclear as to what model or what details will be presented.

Meanwhile, recent leaked benchmark results also indicated that Moto X 2016 could be called Moto XT1650 and it's reportedly in production. There were also rumors stating that the new phone has been given the codename Moto X Sheridan or Sheridan XT1560.

The benchmark result showed that the phone runs on a Snapdragon 820 chipset with a speed of 1.59 GHz. It also has a 4 GB of RAM and comes preloaded with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow at the time of testing.

There might also be another variant of the Moto X 2016, which has superior specs and storage space. The phone is expected to have an internal storage of 32 GB or 64 GB. There's also that possibility that the new phone will come with Android N OS instead of Marshmallow, given that it would become available in the last quarter of 2016.

It seems that the Moto X 2016 will be another impressive device from Motorola based on the rumored specs. A release date has yet to be announced, but if the pattern of release date of the earlier devices is to be followed, Moto X 2016 may be available around Q3.
