Moto X Play vs. Galaxy S6 Active: Galaxy S6 Active may be smaller but it can still take a few knocks

When it comes to durability and phones' capacity to withstand extreme conditions, two of the best options available now in the market are the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active and the bigger Moto X Play. Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

The Moto X Play's size advantage is apparent as it sports a better design with its metal frame and back panel that can be customized by users. It also has an IP52 certification which means it repels water but cannot be submerged. As for the S6 Active, it is built to survive harsh treatment, so it comes with a hard plastic and rubber frame. Its front and back panels are also made of plastic, with the back panel covered in blue camouflage, white camouflage or plain gray. It has an IP68 certification and can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. Furthermore, it is resistant to humidity, vibration and heat.

Display

The display on the Galaxy S6 Active is much sharper even though it is smaller. It comes with a super AMOLED capacitive screen measuring 5.1 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 576 pixels per inch. As for the Moto X Play, it has a capacitive screen that measures 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 403 pixels per inch.

Specs

When it comes to hardware, both devices are almost equal. The Moto X Play comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset and an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.0 GHz and an Adreno 405 GPU. In the S6 Active is a better and faster Exynos 7420 chipset, along with an octa-core CPU comprised of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and a Mali-T760 GPU.

Memory

There is no memory slot on the S6 Active, so it lags behind the Moto X Play in this aspect. The Moto X play comes with a slot that can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, the S6 Active has 3 GB onboard while the Moto X Play only has 2 GB.

Battery

There is a bigger 3630 mAh battery in the Moto X Play while the S6 Active has a 3500 mAh version.

Price

The Moto X Play is expected to cost around $300 in its unlocked form, while the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active costs $199 with a two-year contract.
