Moto Z Play release date, specs: fast-charging modular device to release in September?

(Motorola website)Moto Z Play is rumored to launch this September.

Moto Z Play has once again become a subject of leaks, as the latest benchmark report reveals some of the specs that are likely to be part of the device.

According to the benchmark test result from GFXBench, the Moto Z Play will likely run on a 2.0 GHz octa-core Qualcomm processor. Although the specific chipset model wasn't mentioned, reports suggest that the device will likely carry a Snapdragon 625. Also onboard is 3 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 32 GB. A 64 GB storage option is also expected, based on previous leaks.

The phone's display is measured at 5.5 inches with a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution. According to Slashgear, the Moto Z Play will look more like the Moto Z except that the former will sport a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which will make it appear thicker. Also spotted in the report is an Adreno 506 graphics processing unit (GPU). It was also indicated that the Moto Z Play will ship with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow straight from the box, but a Nougat update is also possible.

GSM Arena also reported that a promotional poster in China was spotted, revealing that the Moto Z Play is a modular device that has a 16-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. What's notable about the poster is that it mentioned how the device can last for up to 36 hours when in standby mode. Also, the phone can last for up to 10 hours after only being charged for 15 minutes.

PhoneArena, citing tipster The Malignant, gathered that the device is expected to make its debut on Sept. 6. The upcoming smartphone could be priced between $400 and $500. If these leaked information prove to be true, Moto Z Play will be an affordable modular smartphone compared to other modular phones of today, including the LG G5.

Motorola has yet to confirm or deny all these reports.
