Motorola DROID Turbo 2 release date rumors: Anticipation heats up ahead of rumored Oct. 15 unveiling

The DROID Turbo was one of the most popular phones released last year so this year, there has been a lot of anticipation surrounding the release of its successor. As rumors about the DROID Turbo 2 continued to swirl, it emerged that the device was certified by the Global Certification Forum this week and many think that it could be unveiled as early as next week along with the Droid Maxx 2.

Phandroid states Motorola's new smartphone could be released as early as Oct. 15 together with the Droid Maxx 2, exclusively on Verizon. It also added that a device bearing the model number XT1585 was seen at the GFC and this could point toward a reveal happening very soon, although no other details about it was shown in the listing.

It is not surprising that a lot of attention is being lavished on the DROID Turbo 2 as the previous year's device came with a huge battery, great screen and solid construction. So far, rumors have indicated that this year's model will also follow the same strategy.

It is, however, the hardware of the DROID Turbo 2 that is currently attracting all the attention because it clearly overshadows the Moto X Style, which is the current flagship of Motorola. The Moto X Style will only be bigger in terms of size as it will have a 5.7 inch QHD display compared to the 5.4 inch QHD display on the DROID Turbo 2.

Additionally, the DROID Turbo 2 is expected to come with a 3760 mAh battery, which is smaller than the 3900 mAh battery used on last year's model but is much bigger than the version available on the Moto X Style. There are also rumors that the DROID Turbo 2 will be customizable on the Moto Maker website, have a shatterproof display, and be available for order on the Verizon website from the 29th of this month.
