The season finale of the critically acclaimed series "Mr. Robot" has been pushed back a week due to the Virginia shooting tragedy. The show's final episode will instead air on Sept. 2.

USA Network made the announcement on Wednesday and said the delay was because the episode carried a "graphic" scene that was eerily similar to what happened in Southwest Virginia.

A statement that the network released said that "out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight's episode."

"Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time," the statement continued.

Tragedy once again struck the nation when two WDBJ-TV employees were shot dead during a live broadcast.

24-year-old reporter, Alison Parker and 27-year-old videographer, Adam Ward, were shot and killed by Vester L. Flanagan II. The alleged shooter used to work at the station as television reporter, Bryce Williams. Flanagan reportedly posted a video of his attack on the pair on social media before killing himself.

"Mr. Robot" follows the story of Elliot Anderson (Rami Malek), an anti-social, mentally unstable IT wizard who had been recruited by the mysterious anarchist known as "Mr. Robot" (Christian Slater).

Created by Sam Esmail, the drama-thriller initially premiered on several online and VOD services. The reviews were so compelling and positive that USA Network immediately picked up a second season even before the show aired on TV.

"Mr. Robot" fans might be disappointed that they have to wait another week to see the finale, but it has become standard practice for networks to pull out episodes that overlap a sensitive situation. Syfy refused to air a "Haven" episode that revolved on school violence after the Sandy Hook shootings while ABC stopped an episode of "Castle" from being shown after the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

Instead of the scheduled "Mr. Robot" finale, a rerun of the previous episode will be aired.
