A release date for Netflix's "Narcos" season 2 has not been officially announced yet but it is widely speculated that the new season will premiere sometime in August. The series that focuses on the life of notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar has been received so well by the audience that its renewal is inevitable.

Apart from being greenlit for a second season, the series was also picked up by media company Univision Communications Inc. so it can broadcast on TV. The deal between streaming service Netflix and the broadcasting network only shows how successful "Narcos" is. The first season of the series will be aired on TV before the second season premieres.

"Narcos" season 1 primarily focused on the life of Escobar (Wagner Moura) fifteen years before his death. Since the show is based on history, there won't be much of a spoiler considering that his life, arrest, escape and death have already been recorded. But season 2 is said to cover the demise of Escobar, and fans may wonder what happens next.

Showrunner Eric Newman earlier revealed that despite the death of the main character, "Narcos" will continue and season 3 is possible. The export and import of illegal drugs did not stop when Escobar died and that means the show won't either.

"There are any number of things that can happen after. We have not committed to one or the other. Obviously there are a lot of other stories in this world that continue on beyond him," Newman told reporters at a Netflix panel early this year.

"Narcos" season 2 is assumed to be currently in production. Not much has been revealed about what's going to happen, except that Escobar will die. Newman shared that there had been a lot of thinking going on for season 2 that it should be exciting for all the fans who have been waiting for the return of the series as it is expected to be as captivating as the first season since Newman said he only wants "the best version of season two."
