Will Lexington (Chris Carmack) is having a pretty good ride on the third season of Nashville with his album selling well and even becoming a reality TV star. The mid-season finale showed how Will's image is in jeopardy when the Internet begins speculations about his sexuality.

Will Lexington has become the country star of the moment in the third season of Nashville. He was instantly popular among his female fans, with some even referring to him as a sex symbol. However, his fame couldn't hide his real personality and some of his critics are becoming more and more aware of the one thing he hides: his sexuality. The pressure to come out to his fans is becoming more and more of a reality. Will just might be able to do it with the help of a new character on the way.

A new character named Kevin Shay is currently being cast for the return of Nashville after the mid-season break. The character is described by TVLine as an "openly gay" performer who sings and write songs, and is one of the most successful artists in Nashville. TVLine added that Kevin is "handsome and tough," and a "man's man."

Coming out has always been a crisis for Will. He thinks that if he comes out in public, his record label and its executives, particularly Jeff (Oliver Hudson), will shun him and strip him of the things he has achieved. Also, the country music crowd or audience has always been portrayed by ABC as a conservative demographic, making Will's fears quite realistic.

Case in point: when an edited video of Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) became viral where she was seen saying "there is no God," fans and country music listeners started shunning her, to the point where they burned her albums.

One of Will's concerns — and the only concern for record label executive Jeff (Oliver Hudson) — is that the public would shun him if he came out. The country music audience is portrayed as rather conservative on the ABC drama, so his fears aren't unwarranted. After an edited video of Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) saying "there is no God" hit the Internet, people started burning her albums.
