'Nashville' season 5 air date, spoilers: New trailer confirms Juliette survived

(Facebook/NashvilleABC)"Nashville" season 5 will premiere on Jan. 5 on CMT.

"Nashville" fans should rejoice as a new trailer for the upcoming fifth season has been released and it sees the return of Hayden Panettiere's Juliette Barnes.

The one-minute clip starts out with Rayna James (Connie Britton) slowly turning her head toward the camera, eyes wide and fully made up. "We all break. That's what makes us human," she says.

"We tape ourselves together so that no one can see our flawed hearts," Juliette chimes in, featuring the same mood and drama that Rayna sported seconds ago.

Scarlett O'Connor, played by Clare Bowen, similarly opines: "But not all who break are broken. Sometimes you have to break your own heart to put the pieces back in the right place."

"I've left a trail of destruction, hurt people I've loved, let down the people who love me," Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten) moodily points out.

The trailer is filled with drama and intercut with scenes of emotion — passion, pain, anger, and joy. One thing they can all agree on, though, is that music is their escape. "And if my choices have made me, it's music that saves me," Will Lexington (Chris Carmack) declares.

Speaking of music, fans can look forward to more songs in the new season, as opposed to the continuous drama. As previously reported, co-showrunner Marshall Herskovitz has said that the "first thing we mandated was shorter scripts, so there's time for the music to play out." There are also going to be different styles, other than country, that are going to be introduced.

Apart from the music, cast members have also been added to the show. Jen Richards will be playing Allyson Del Lago, a physical therapist, and Bridgit Mendler will be playing Ashley Wilkenson, an up-and-coming star discovered on YouTube.

The season 5 teaser is also getting a lot of attention because it concludes once and for all that Juliette did indeed survive her flight. The season 4 finale left fans with a cliffhanger when the plane Juliette was on mysteriously disappeared.

"Nashville" season 5 will premiere on Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. on CMT.
