NBA 2K15 release date features: 3D face-scan technology puts you literally in the game

Among the features scheduled for the upcoming NBA 2k15 release date, Visual Concepts introduces a way for video game players to capture a 3D image of their face and create their own NBA 2K15 characters.

"It's all done using the processing power of the next-gen systems," said Jeff Thomas, vice president of sports development at NBA 2K15 developer Visual Concepts.

Thomas continued, "We've been talking about doing this for a number of years, but it really wasn't possible until we knew the processing power of the next-gen machines. It took some time to get it right."

The technology is made to take different angles of the gamer's face to render photorealistic NBA 2K15 3D models. The face can then be placed onto bodies of virtual NBA players.

Developers encourage gamers to take photos in a well-lit room for better quality results.

A quirky video featuring Houston Rockets' James Harden demonstrates the new NBA 2K15 3D features.

"That doesn't sound like a lot of time," Thomas said commenting on the feature, and added, "But if you think of things in milliseconds like you do when you make games, with the computer processing power inside that box, three minutes is like an eternity. That just shows how much math and things are required to compute these points in 3-D space, then construct a model that looks like you."

Aside from this exciting development, 2K sports has recently released a video showing player introductions for the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena.

Another trailer presents "What If" scenarios with narration from Shaquille O'Neal.

The movements are so realistic that one can easily spot fans holding up Cavs guard Kyrie Irving's head when his name is announced.

With reigning MVP Kevin Durant of Oklahoma City Thunders on the cover, the NBA 2K15 release date is scheduled for Oct. 7.

The video game will be available for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
