NBA trade rumors 2016: Spurs to enhance backcourt with Suns' Brandon Knight?

The San Antonio Spurs are a force in the league, especially with the start they had to the 2016-17 season. What is scary is they can get even better, and one of the suggestions made was for them to dump Danny Green and Patty Mills to the Phoenix Suns for Brandon Knight.

Ahead of the season opening, Knight suddenly was a name that became a regular in the rumor mill. This was because Suns head coach Earl Watson chose Eric Bledsoe as their starting point guard over him.

Watson explained and defended his decision, even praising Knight. But this did not stop the rumors, and now one of them links the 24-year-old to the Spurs.

Knight would be an excellent acquisition for San Antonio. His size gives him the ability to play at the no. 1 and 2 positions. He is also a scorer and is a decent defender.

For the Spurs, there are a number of reasons why Green and Mills are the ones seen as potential trade assets.

Green is currently injured but he is still a valuable player due to his outside shooting. However, recently, there are talks that the Spurs should now deal him, with Jonathon Simmons being a revelation.

Meanwhile, there is no specific reason why Mills is always mentioned when it comes to trade deals. Maybe he is seen as a good piece since he is an efficient role player and backup playmaker for San Antonio.

This is a good deal for the Spurs and Suns. However, the former is unlikely engaging in any sort of swap as of the moment.

The Spurs are achieving success with their current unit and taking one or more guys away from that may ruin the momentum they have this season. Team chemistry will also be affected when a new member comes in.
