Nexus 6 battery explodes; Twitter user shares images of badly disfigured handset

The Nexus 6 has been one of Google's most unpopular handsets to date and is reportedly plagued by several problems. Apart from supply issues, Nexus 6 users have earlier reported facing battery problems, including poor battery life, and the battery expanding and swelling causing the rear cover to pop open. However, until now, there has not been a single case of the Nexus 6 battery exploding and making the handset useless. But less than six months after the model was officially launched, a Nexus 6 owner has now complained of the battery on her handset exploding and even shared her experience by posting photographs of the damaged device on Twitter.

According to Monica Jasuja, a user from New Delhi, India, her Nexus 6 simply blew up, destroying the battery and leaving the phone completely unusable. Jasuja also clarified that the phone was not being charged or used when it exploded and it was simply lying around. The shocked Nexus 6 user also posted a bunch of photographs of the badly disfigured handset on Twitter.

The Nexus 6 was launched in the US in late-October and since then the device has been in short supply in a majority of the markets where it has been released due to its limited production. The Nexus 6 comes with a non-removable plastic back and several users have complained on social networking sites, like Twitter, Reddit and Google , about the handset's back cover coming off after its battery swelled up and expanded. The Nexus 6 is manufactured for Google by Motorola, which has acknowledged that the device does have a battery problem. The company is reported to have come across a number of Nexus 6 owners facing battery problems and it has even offered free replacement of the handset's back panel to affected users. Both Motorola and Google are also reportedly developing a solution to the problem ahead of their plans to increase the smartphone's production.
