Ever since the big split between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder in 2013, a few fans have been hoping that the two will reunite one day and reconcile for good. Somerhalder is now married to Nikki Reed, and while most have accepted the marriage and are happy for the actor, there are still a few who continue to relive the memories of the "Delena" couple.

Recent reports suggest that Somerhalder had requested for Dobrev to be part of the series finale of "The Vampire Diaries." While showrunner Julie Plec has not confirmed Dobrev's return, she has said that discussions are going on and she's positive things will go her way since she has previously agreed with Dobrev that the actress should return when the show wraps up.

Somerhalder has not really mentioned anything about Dobrev's return to "TVD" and rumor has it that this is because his wife is against the idea of him reuniting with his on-screen love and former real-life girlfriend.

Dobrev said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight after Somerhalder and Reed tied the knot that she's happy for the two.

"When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful," the 27-year-old actress said, obviously with no bitter feelings at all. "They look happy and I am happy and so I don't see why there should be a problem with that," she added.

When Dobrev and Somerhalder announced their split in May 2013, the "Delena" fan base went into a frenzy. Somerhalder moved on to date Reed in July 2014, a couple of months after she divorced Paul McDonald. It seemed like a whirlwind romance to some but others believe that what they have is genuine.

Both Reed and Somerhalder have not responded to the rumors about their alleged upcoming divorce and rocky marriage. In fact, two months ago, Somerhalder posted a photo of him and Reed with their dog, asking fans to help support the people who were devastated during the Louisiana flood.

It seems that amid all the rumors about their marriage falling apart, Reed and Somerhalder are doing great.

For now, fans can only hope that Somerhalder and Dobrev will reunite through friendship and business in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
