Nintendo NX release date, specs: a handheld console with removable controllers set for release next year?

(Nintendo)Inset are the consoles that are currently posted on Nintendo's website. Rumor has it that the Nintendo NX will be a handheld gaming platform with detachable controllers which is slated to be out next year.

Nintendo's recent best kept secret, which is the Nintendo NX, has been somewhat leaked to the gaming public due to some reports indicating the yet-to-be-announced console's appearance. According to reports, the upcoming console will be a handheld platform whose controllers are located on both sides and can be removed and re-attached, whichever the user's preference is in playing.

In addition, whenever users opted to play a game in a bigger picture, it is also said that it's possible that the forthcoming console can be plugged onto a TV for a better view of what users are playing.

However, it's also reported that the Nintendo NX will still prefer using the cartridge system that Nintendo has been using for its handhelds. Having said this, the company will have to come up with a cartridge that can hold big amounts of data from a game since recently produced titles — whether digitally or through disc — usually eat up massive amounts of data. It was also stated that the Kyoto-based game company has previously taken into consideration the idea of developing a Nintendo NX that can play games digitally and download at the same time. But it was turned down and the company resorted back to the cartridge instead.

Furthermore, the Nintendo NX will not support backward compatibility to previously released games from older Nintendo handhelds. A move that will make a bad impression among gamers and long-time fans alike. The handheld will still be rendering the services of Android as their operating system. It will also be fused with NVIDIA's tiny yet fast graphics processing unit (GPU) dubbed as Tegra.

Nintendo, on the other hand, has yet to make a statement regarding the rumors about their much-hyped console. However, reports suggest that the Nintendo NX will be unveiled during the first quarter of 2017.
