'Nintendo NX' release date, new details: Latest console revealed to be Nintendo Switch

A lot of Nintendo fans are really excited about the company's new console since it has been unveiled recently with a trailer. Apparently, the device is now called the Nintendo Switch and it has abandoned the codename that it has carried for months, Nintendo NX. It also appears that most of the speculations about the latest console that were circulating the internet were true.

Based on a report from IGN, the Nintendo Switch is actually a hybrid since it can be connected to the television or be a handheld device by just taking it out from the console dock. It also has a controller that can be separated into two pieces where each part has a separate function. Its games will not be in the form of a CD, but in a cartridge instead, like those used for the Nintendo 3DS.

According to a report from Gamespot, the controllers are called "Joy-Con" and it can also be attached to the console or to a "grip" device. Another good thing about them is they can function wirelessly which gives more comfort for some gamers. They also have another controller that they can use called the Switch Pro and it is a more traditional kind of controller that's similar to the Wii U Pro.

The main concept behind the latest console is to give gamers the freedom to play however way they want to. The promotional video of the hardware showcased different types of people enjoying the Nintendo Switch at home or outside. It also highlighted how the console is very portable.

It was mentioned on Nvidia's website that the hardware carries a custom Tegra processor. It also stated: "The Nintendo Switch's gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance."

There is no definite release date yet for the Nintendo Switch, but it is expected to arrive in March 2017.
